No 1. tourist attraction of Poznań

The lively Old Town of Poznań, with its beautiful buildings and charming corners, is a unique reminder of the city’s golden age in the 16th century – a time of true prosperity.

It is here – in the Old Market Square of Poznań – that the famous goats appear, right from the Town Hall tower to amuse yet another generation of visitors exactly at noon. If you do not know where to begin your sightseeing of Poznań, this is where you should be.

On the route

1
Town Hall

Dubbed "the most beautiful Renaissance building north of the Alps" - today the Town Hall is the no 1. icon of the city. Sightseeing from the outside.

2
Poznań billy goats

If anything, the goats are the most recognisable symbol of Poznań. It is a clock mechanism with two goats, naturally with a legend behind it. It's a sin to be in Poznań, and not see the goats - we mean it! Openings at noon and 3pm

3
Whipping pole and merchant houses

Here you will face the executioner - (for the first time in your life) and learn some tricks of his trade. The colourful merchant houses nearby tell the story of trade in 16th C. Poznań.

4
Former Jesuit Church

This is a true gem of Baroque in Poznań. Never destroyed in any wars, it now boasts its unique beauty both from the inside and from the outside.

5
The Royal Castle

Although rebuilt quite recently, it represents the oldest royal residence as compared to Cracow and Warsaw. The top of the tower is the only official viewpoint in the Old Town.

6
Bamberger Monument

Another symbol of Poznań second only to the goats. The Bambergers explain why Poznanians are often called potatoes, or rather "pyras" in local parlance.

7
Archeological Museum*

Formerly a noble residence, it boasts an authentic ancient Egyptian obelisk amidst picturesque Renaissance yard. *Yard only, entrance to full exhibition paid separately.
